Staffing in the local court system hasn't kept up with the area's rise in crime, which means the top prosecutor for Charleston and Berkeley counties must do more with less, the two Republican candidates for solicitor agreed Tuesday.

A judge sentenced Dominic Derricotte to a life prison term Thursday for gunning down his boss at a North Charleston restaurant in a slaying the lead prosecutor described as "an out and out execution."
